Insta archive

A little over a week ago I broke my elbow after a fall with my bicycle on some of Antwerp’s historic cobblestones…

Sadly this means I won’t be able to photograph for a while and create new work. To keep things moving and by way of sharing a bit of my archive work, I’ve started sharing some of my photographs and thoughts or stories on my instagram feed.

It’s also a nice way to share some images that won’t make the cut and so won’t end up in my first photo book ‘In praise of shadows’.

Hope you’ll like the work 🙂

Muhammed Muheisen

Last week I was surprised and very honored to find that fellow photographer and dear friend Muhammed Muheisen mentioned me in his online article on the American Photo website, where he is taking over their instagram account for a week.

Ever since I met Muhammed back in 2006 in Jerusalem, I’ve been inspired by his work and it’s so wonderful to know he likes my work as well. Thank you so much for the kind words Muhammed!

Do check out the amazing work of Muhammed. You’ll notice immediately why he has won a few World Press Photo Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and countless other awards and continues to inspire me in my work.

Instagram anniversary

Today I’ve updated my Instagram feed with images I took on a trip to Afghanistan, photographing female Afghan parliament member Fawzia Koofi as well as researching stories on maternal health and woman, a subject that has been very close to my heart since I first started working in Pakistan in 2009.

I noticed that I started posting images on Instagram a little over a year ago.
Yet, I started photographing with my Iphone and the hipstamatic app in 2011.

For the fun of it, I went back into my archive to see what I had shot back then with my phone and there are still so many little gems and stories there that haven’t been posted on my Instagram because of this timing gap.
So I decided to finish my week delving in my phone archive and posting images from the ‘old box’ sort of say.
