Today I was at the ZNA Sint-Elisabeth hospital in Antwerp, where a concert was organized for some of the longterm staying patients there, who got to choose the songs that were played. Actor/musician Bruno Vanden Broecke was guest starring and is patron of this initiative.

Music has proven to have therapeutic power and helps patients escape the hospital atmosphere for a while. It’s also used for instance in therapy that works with people that have dementia, who slowly loose more of their memory, but often get triggered by hearing music from their past. It often evokes immediate reaction and people will sing along, move or start to dance.

It was beautiful to see how the people at ZNA enjoyed the songs of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, or Noordkaap.
