This morning I received sad news from Pakistan again. Shahbaz Bhatti, the minister of minorities, was shot eight times by gunmen who ambushed him as he stepped into his car, the New York Times wrote.
In 2009 I had the honor of meeting the Minister myself when I was doing a story on the Christian minority living in the slums of Islamabad. It was a very quick meeting and sadly I have no photograph of him and there was no follow up on that first initial meeting.
He was the spokesperson for the Christian minority who live in horrible conditions in Pakistan’s capital. Doing the considered worst jobs there are, cleaning houses of the elite, but living in houses without proper sanitation, electricity and other basic facilities themselves. Children playing in the narrow streets where sewage from other parts of the city runs by. You can see more of my pictures of the French Colony slum and another slum in Karachi via this link.
