About a month ago I met Hamida and her family for the first time in one of the many camps for flood victims set up all over Pakistan.
Coming from the Shikarpur area, Hamida and Mohammad Ali lost everything they worked for their entire lives when the water flooded their village. Woken up in the middle of the night, they were told they had to leave to save their lives, not even time to take any of their belongings. They arrived in Karachi with only the clothes on their backs.
8 months pregnant and 3 previous complicated deliveries before that, she is now awaiting the birth of her 4th child.
Living conditions are difficult in the camps, but Hamida doesn’t complain. For her life in the camp is almost better then her life at home. They were very poor and at least in the camp they get two to three meals a day which at home is never a certainty.
This story is a work in progress. You can see some of the photographs on my website already. Do check it out!
